****SPECIAL NOTE****
In the June through August months, our feeder sales will be every 2nd and 4th Friday of the month, which will all be Beef/Holstein Combination Sales during that time
Kicking off our first Feeder Sale of the Summer Schedule, we had a nice run of Beef & Holstein Feeders, selling 932 feeders in total. As we see cattle numbers brought to market slowly start to diminish as we head into the latter part of June, the market was steady/strong; on the Holstein end of things, the market was stronger amongst all weight classes. There was a great buyer turnout, with good demand, especially for the medium flesh/green condition cattle, as folks are looking to buy condition as they turn their stock out to green grass. On the Beef Feeders, the market was definitely steady; being stronger in some areas. There was quite a limited test amongst most of our beef feeder cattle Friday, but the numbers we had was a reflection of a very positive market trend we’ve seen the past 2-3 months. The Beef cattle have been relatively strong & steady for a few months now, but the holstein market really seemed to finally gain some ground and much needed optimism and positivity. As we continue into the summer months and start looking into the fall market outlook, we sure look for these feeder and fat cattle to remain on a relatively consistent/steady market trend. Although we are merely in the early stages of summer, we have already started to see one extreme to the next. Upon a very wet and muddy spring, which led to lush green grass from the beginning of May (highly welcomed), mother nature sure has shown us how it dictates most everything. It didn’t take long to have a few days of high heat, windy conditions, and we went from plenty of moisture, to the realization rain will be much welcomed again. Nonetheless, these are factors we cannot change, nor ever will be able to. If anything, the unpredictablity of mother nature is a drop in the bucket compared to the market roller coaster we’ve encountered the past year and a half. We can deal with weather, and whatever it may throw our way (we are plenty used to it in the Midwest); as long as the cattle market remains on a steady/stable trend line, with future optomism, I think we’re miles ahead, and it’s a win. As our beef exports into China begin to take place, the cattle market is fundamentally stable it sure appears. We sure thank each and every one of your for your hard work and dedication. From all your Friends at Bloomington Livestock Exchange, we extend a big THANKS TO YOU ALL !!!! Here’s a look at the market from this past Friday’s Feeder Cattle Sale.
